Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum to open 2026 lecture series with talk on Connecticut’s role in the American Revolution

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum (295 West Ave, Norwalk, CT 068509) will launch its 2026 Lecture Series on April 19 with a presentation examining Connecticut’s pivotal role in the American Revolution.
The illustrated talk, titled “Connecticut in the American Revolution: Provision State & Arsenal of the Revolution,” will be presented by historian Eric Chandler from 2 to 4 p.m. at the museum. Light refreshments will follow the program.
The event also coincides with celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary.

LMMM Trustee and Lecture Chair Kathy Olsen said the program will offer a closer look at Connecticut’s contributions during the War for Independence.
“We’re kicking off our Lecture Series and celebrating America’s 250th anniversary with a deep dive into Connecticut’s role in the Revolution,” Olsen said in a statement. “We’re excited to have Mr. Chandler join us — his expertise and passion for this era are legendary, and he is sure to give a captivating talk.”
Despite its relatively small size among the original colonies, Connecticut played an outsized role in supporting the war effort. Often referred to as the “Provision State,” Connecticut supplied food, munitions and matériel to Continental forces. Chandler’s presentation will explore how the state’s government, industry and citizens helped sustain the fight against Great Britain over eight years of conflict.
Chandler has been involved in American Revolutionary War living history since 1974, portraying roles ranging from infantry and light infantry soldiers to whale-boat raiders and dragoons. He is currently serving his third term on the Norwalk Historical Commission and is a member of the Norwalk Historical Society board of directors.
After a more than 30-year career as an underwriter for a land title insurance company, Chandler now focuses on historical lectures and living history programs. He has also been active in the arts as a musician and recording artist.
Tickets and additional information are available through the museum’s website.
