Local Cidery Achieves Distinction as Best Cider in Connecticut, New England
Staehly Farm Winery (278 Town St, East Haddam, CT 06423) is proud to announce that at the 2024 Eastern States Exposition Gold Cider & Perry Competition, held in June, entries from the farm’s cidery “Yankee Cider Company” (23 Petticoat Ln, East Haddam, CT 06423) earned the distinction of “Best Connecticut” as well as “Best In New England” hard cider – The sixth time in the past seven years. The competition includes entries from across the region, and a “Best of State” is featured for each of the participating New England states. An additional award is given for the highest-ranking overall cider in the competition and is dubbed “Best in New England”. A number of silver and bronze medals were also awarded to the cidery.
Yankee Cider Company, a brand of Staehly Farm Winery, achieved distinction as the Best Cider in Connecticut and in New England with its Rochambeau’s March Raspberry Cider. As with all ciders produced by Yankee Cider Co, this cider is 100% Connecticut grown, being made from raspberries and apples grown on Staehly Farm Winery’s farm in East Haddam. The judges found the resulting hard cider to be exceptional in its quality, awarding it enough points to classify it as a “world class example of the style”. The “Rochambeau’s March Raspberry” hard cider received a Gold Medal and was Overall Champion for New England. This is the seventh year Yankee Cider Company ciders have achieved this distinction, becoming the prevailing highest-awarded hard ciders in all of New England.
