‘Life Cycle’ exhibit draws more than 200 visitors to Parkville Art Gallery

Guests of Parkville Art Gallery ( 1429 Park Street, Suite 202A, Hartford, CT ) dodged the raindrops to show their support of the gallery’s Life Cycle exhibit opening on May 8, 2025. Life Cycle marked the quarterly exhibit rotation, upholding the gallery’s mission to support and elevate emerging and established artists from the community. The reception featured new work from 11 Connecticut-based artists, offering fresh perspectives across a variety of mediums.

The current gallery exhibit includes artists Jonathan Frechette, Christine Chaise Greenwood, Peter Greenwood, Edith Skiba Lamonika, Meredith Longo, Andre Rochester, Mark Schebell, Jason Werner, and Robert Zott. The mediums currently represented in Parkville Art Gallery are blown glass, painting, collage, photography, and upcycled art. Each artist was present throughout the evening to discuss their process and vision with visitors.
Opening remarks were shared by gallery Owner and Director, Miguel Matos, Managing Director, Meredith Longo, Events Manager, Rochelle Williams, and Amanda Roy, Interim CEO of the Greater Hartford Arts Council.
“It’s a space where people can come together. Hartford needs this. It’s a beautiful thing,” said Roy.
Alongside the quarterly rotation of featured artists, Parkville Art Gallery permanently showcases new work from its two artists-in-residence: Miguel Jose Matos, Gallery Director, and Antony Zito, Associate Director. As members of the creative team, their pieces offer a continuous throughline within the space—grounding the gallery’s curatorial vision in their distinct artistic perspectives. Their latest collaboration, Game Faces: Soccer Stars On Canvas, also debuted during the celebration. The pieces are a mix of Matos’ signature abstract work and Zito’s uncanny rendering of lifelike portraiture, featuring famous legends such as Mia Hamm, Pele, and Lionel Messi.

Local guest vendors elevated the experience of the evening with their own unique artistry. Parkville Art Gallery provided a complimentary grazing table from caterer Distinctive Ideas. Snapseat Photo Booths provided a complimentary selfie station, Joy of Life Art Creation created a live painting, and music and vibes were set by DJ Laki, a Hartt School alumni. Ital Juicery tabled with their amazing organic cold-pressed juices and sea moss, and Vino Crudo popped up with a selection of natural and biodynamic wines from around the world.
Parkville Art Gallery guests were taken with the expansive 4,000 square foot space located at 1429 Park Street in the Parkville neighborhood of Hartford. The building was constructed in the 1920’s as a part of the U.S. Rubber Company campus, and while it has seen many updates, the original large columns and soaring ceilings were preserved, making it the perfect space to showcase art.
