Taproom Tastings, Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center’s popular virtual program, is back for its fourth season! Join Chief Curator Catherine Prescott and Hendrick I. Lott House Board Member Mary Tsaltas-Ottomanelli, livestreaming from Ridgefield’s beloved tavern museum, as they investigate historic food and drink cultures. The first program of the new season is Tuesday, November 14 at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom and will examine the complex history of spices.
Catherine and Mary’s relaxed, conversational style is an engaging way to get unique and entertaining insights into America’s culinary histories and learn how food and drink have long been central to building and maintaining community and cultural identity.
Getting ready to show off your culinary skills with well-seasoned recipes this holiday season? The spices in your cupboards have extraordinary stories to tell! For the November program, Catherine and Mary will explore fascinating aspects of the history of spices, tracing how spice usage and popularity has changed from the 18th century to today. Learn about the origins and distribution of some of our favorite spices; hear how cooks in the past used and combined different flavors; and follow along with Catherine and Mary as they trace the rise and fall in popularity of different spices.
The Taproom Tastings virtual series will run monthly from November to April. Upcoming episode topics include immigrant foodways, dairy, the history of restaurants, gin, and food innovation. The programs are free for all, with a suggested donation of $10, and registration is required.
