June 28th, 2024 Lainey Wilson graced Bridgeport, CT’s Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater with the Country’s Cool Again Tour. The starlet’s career has catapulted the past few years including wins for both Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 2024 Grammys. Wilson hails from Baskin, LA, and true to her country roots she sings about her love of Jesus, a smooth glass of Whiskey, and heartbreak. Most of her set focused on singles from her 2022 album “Bell Bottom Country” which peaked at number 9 on BIllboard’s Top Country Albums back in 2023.

The night consisted of sets from Wilson, Ian Munsick, and Washington native Zach Top whose breakthrough single “Sounds Like the Radio ” landed him on the Billboard charts Zack in January. Top started off the night with a half hour set with songs from his 2024 album “Cold Beer & Country Music”. His performance was a bit lax compared to the other artists of the night, but his signature bluesy infused tracks landed well with the audience. My personal favorite was the daunting yet upbeat “Bad Luck” which currently has over 11 million streams on Spotify.

Munsick was next to hit the stage, with an infectiously upbeat demeanor that proved to be a welcomed change of pace. A little research shows the Wyoming born musician has an impressive reign on Spotify with 3 songs streamed over 66 million times, which isn’t an easy feat. Munsick performed from his 2023 album “White Buffalo” & 2021’s “Coyote Cry”. The singer spent a portion of his set thanking Wilson who he dubbed “The New Queen of Country Music”. A moniker Wilson is seemingly living up too with her recent achievements. Munsick has an interesting vocal quality with a striking clarity reminiscent of indie pop singer Alec Benjamin.

Around 9pm Wilson hit the stage standing atop the roof of a red pickup truck. The truck in question was a part of her woodsy stage decor that took the audience from the urban city of Bridgeport to the back roads of the south. Wilson stood tall even as the truck began to turn. It was quite an impressive feat seeing as she wasn’t strapped into a harness or other safety gear. She started with her recent release “Hang Tight Honey”, an emotional track that told the story of a musician missing her lover back home. Wilson has an impressive vocal tone that sounds like it was pried from the record. It’s always a treat when an artist sounds either just as good or better than their studio recordings. Halfway into her set Wilson brought out Ian Munsick to sing her MIranda Lambert duet “Good Horses”. The singer then announced that single would be on her forthcoming album “Whirlwind” which releases August 23rd, 2024. It’s a big year for Wilson – An album release, 2 Grammy wins, and a single on the 2024 remake of “Twisters” entitled “Out of Oklahoma”. Wilson sang the ladder which is a love note to the state, and how one can carry their home in their heart no matter where the road takes them. Overall, Wilson gave an impressive performance bringing out Country loving Connecticut residents from every corner of the state. Her near sold out show proved that country music is truly “Cool again”.
