Veteran singer-songwriter and guitarist Jim Messina, whose career has spanned more than five decades and multiple chart-topping collaborations, will perform at the Fairfield Theatre Company on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

Messina first rose to prominence as a producer and audio engineer for Buffalo Springfield before joining the band as its bass player. After the group disbanded in 1968, he teamed up with fellow member Richie Furay to form Poco, helping pioneer the country rock genre with Messina on lead guitar.

Following three albums with Poco, Messina returned to producing, signing with Columbia Records as an independent producer. In 1970, he was asked to work with then-unknown singer-songwriter Kenny Loggins. What began as a production project evolved into the duo Loggins & Messina after the release of their 1971 debut album, “Sittin’ In.”

Over the next seven years, Loggins & Messina released eight albums, scored multiple hit singles, and sold more than 16 million records, becoming one of the most successful recording duos of the 1970s. The pair eventually went their separate ways, with Messina returning to solo work.

In recent years, Messina has toured with a band composed of longtime collaborators and released “In the Groove,” a collection that revisits material from his years with Buffalo Springfield, Poco, and Loggins & Messina, along with selections from his solo catalog.

The March 12 performance in Fairfield is expected to feature a mix of classic hits and fan favorites from throughout Messina’s career.
