Holiday candlelight tours return to the Webb Deane Stevens Museum this December
The Webb Deane Stevens Museum’s popular holiday candlelight house tour return this season on Saturday, December 9, and Saturday, December 16. Guests will be able to experience three centuries of Christmas in the museum’s historic houses, all beautifully lit by candlelight. In addition to delighting in a charming array of holiday decor spanning the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries, including Christmas trees, greenery, handmade treasures, antique toys, and enchanting period ornaments, guests will discover how the roots of modern family traditions have grown over hundreds of years.
This nostalgic journey into holidays past will begin at The Silas Deane House, a National Historic Landmark, where New Year’s Day was the primary celebration in the 18th century. At the Joseph Webb House, also a National Historic Landmark, guests will learn how holiday decor and Christmas festivities began to develop into the 19th century. A cozy, traditional New England family Christmas in the 1840s will be on display in the Isaac Stevens House, which is listed on the town of Wethersfield’s historic registry.
The Museum Gift Shop will also be open both evenings. Guests can shop a wide array of fabulous holiday treasures, including books, ornaments, candles, children’s toys, handcrafted treasures, and hostess gifts.
Tours will be held at 6, 7, and 8 p.m. Groups are limited to 12. Tours include walking and stair climbing. NSCDA-CT and Museum Members: $25 / General Public: $30. Don’t delay, as tickets are sure to sell out! Pre-registration is required. To purchase tickets, visit https://wdsmuseum.org/event/holiday-candlelight-tours/.
