gutter sinatra, the musical project of songwriter and producer Don Miggs, will bring its first-ever tour to SHU Community Theatre (1420 Post Rd, Fairfield, CT 06824) on Jan. 21, opening for singer-songwriter Stephen Kellogg in support of a newly released self-titled debut album.

The Fairfield stop comes early in a national run that begins Jan. 20 in Pittsburgh and winds through the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest and Rocky Mountain states before wrapping up in late February with shows in Washington, D.C., and New York City. The tour marks Miggs’ first time taking the Gutter Sinatra project on the road.

The idea for gutter sinatra took shape during the COVID-19 shutdown, when Miggs found himself back in the studio after months of uncertainty. Searching for a sense of normalcy, he began writing songs inspired by the sounds of 1970s radio, layering drums and bass into tracks that didn’t fit the style of his previous projects.

What began as a personal experiment soon turned into a fast-moving collaboration with legendary mixing engineer Bob Clearmountain. Miggs approached Clearmountain with a handful of songs and was offered a narrow 10-day window to finish an entire record. At the time, only four tracks were complete.

Over the next 10 days, Miggs wrote, performed and produced six additional songs, sending one new track each day across the country to be mixed. By the end of the sprint, the album was finished — but Miggs chose to keep it largely private.

“It all just felt too personal,” Miggs said in a statement, describing the project as something created during a time when it was unclear if live music and recording would ever return to normal.

Years later, after revisiting the recordings and reflecting on the fleeting nature of time, Miggs decided to release the music and bring it to the stage. The album is now finding its audience as gutter sinatra joins Kellogg’s tour.

The Jan. 21 performance at SHU Community Theatre offers Connecticut fans an early chance to see the project live, pairing Miggs’ reflective songwriting with Kellogg’s long-established presence on the singer-songwriter circuit.
