‘Ground Zero: Witchcraft in Connecticut’ marks a new chapter in Glebe House Museum’s All Hollow’s Eve events

As the Glebe House Museum celebrates its 100th anniversary, a popular program rooted in Connecticut’s colonial past is getting a dramatic new form. Ground Zero: Witchcraft in Connecticut will debut Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Old Town Hall in Woodbury, transforming one of the museum’s most beloved traditions into a full-length theatrical podcast experience.

The program grew out of the museum’s long-running portrayal of Moll Cramer, the so-called “Witch of Woodbury,” who was accused of witchcraft and expelled from town in the 1600s. Volunteer Linda Barr-Gale brought Cramer’s story to life for years during cemetery tours before the performance expanded into a one-woman show on the museum grounds.

Over time, Barr-Gale incorporated additional figures accused of witchcraft across Connecticut, including Thomas Allyn, Rebecca Greensmith and Katherine Harrison. The storytelling drew larger audiences each year, prompting organizers to create a new format that blends history with modern production.

The upcoming presentation will explore why the Connecticut River Valley was central to witch trials and executions, weaving together stories of both survival and tragedy. Running approximately two and a half hours with intermission, the program is recommended for ages 14 and older. Complimentary refreshments will be available, and donations are welcome.

General admission is $25, with seating on a first-come basis. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. at the Old Town Hall, 5 Mountain Road, Woodbury. Advance tickets are recommended and may be purchased through the museum’s website at www.glebehousemuseum.org or by contacting the office at 203-263-2855.

In addition, the museum is seeking volunteers for its All Hollow’s Eve events, including Ground Zero and the Haunted Hollow Tours. An information session will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Glebe House Museum, 49 Hollow Road, Woodbury. Adults and teens with an interest in acting are encouraged to participate, as well as those willing to assist with preparations and evening activities.
