Greenwich Girl reaches 10 year milestone

Social media powerhouse and digital magazine entrepreneur continues to push the envelope within an ever-changing media platform

Greenwich native/resident Laura McKitttrick, owner of the wildly successful “Greenwich Girl” digital magazine and social media platform, reflects on ten years of operating a business in an industry that evolves with every passing day. What began as a simple online resource, a.k.a. blog, that filled a void in the Greenwich, Connecticut market, quickly became the go-to resource for anything and everything to find, do, buy, and experience in this tony suburb of New York.

“I started Greenwich Girl (GG) because I noticed how people throughout Fairfield and Westchester County and New York City were drawn to our town. I wanted to create and provide a go-to resource for all things Greenwich that was easily accessible, showcasing the love that I have for the area while supporting local businesses and our community, “reflects Laura.

It’s hard to imagine a world without social media. When GG first introduced itself, social media was in its infancy and there was not a Greenwich-specific online resource.  Mainstream media had yet to incorporate more modern digital platforms and social media to enhance their print magazines and newspapers. Laura seized the opportunity to connect with her audience and local businesses who were ready for something more cutting-edge, timely, and entertaining.

Using social media, subscriber-based e-newsletters, and digital marketing strategies, GG quickly grew in popularity, especially among the 30 and 40-somethings in and around the Greenwich area, and soon expanded its reach nationwide. This impact led to the brand’s growth into the digital magazine arena. To sustain this growth, the quality of the social media and digital magazine content had to keep up with and satisfy the GG audience. This meant utilizing professional photography, curating subject matter, and creating partnerships with advertisers who followed a like-minded marketing style and sensibility.  Today, The Greenwich Girl has over 150,000 followers on social media, a reach that exceeds 500,000 and since inception, more than 2,500 local and national businesses/brands, including a few international brand advertisers. Locally, GG enjoys partnerships with such advertisers as Saks 5th Ave, Betteridge Jewelers, Petticoat Lane, L’escale Restaurant, and Delamar Hotels.

While new practices are finding their way into the social media fabric and the platform becomes increasingly competitive among hyper-local social media pages fighting to carve out and grow an audience, the GG brand holds to growing its platforms organically. Laura keeps the content fresh and engaging while exuding a professional while playful vibe to grow her followers.

“The shifting online landscape helps keep us on our toes and has boosted efficiency and effectiveness for our team,” says Laura of staying relevant within a fast-growing platform, “New social media outlets and an influx of influencers have allowed us to make incredible partnerships and share ideas. The constant changes in the space have provided us with an amazing opportunity to expand and connect.”

GG’s benefit to the public is its power to unite Greenwich and its residents and businesses – strengthening the community, driving consumers to local businesses, raising funds for local organizations, supporting town-based events, and so much more.

“Greenwich is truly a special place. It is affluent yet approachable. It embraces a wide range of communities, and it is genuine with local, family-owned businesses that span generations and provide character. We hope our audience feels the personal introduction to the local businesses we partner with, to the families we feature, and to the resources we offer them.”
