Glebe House Museum offers public tours of South Cemetery in July

An upcoming historical event titled Whispers of the Past will offer public tours of the South Cemetery and the Glebe House Museum and Garden in Woodbury. Scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2026, the joint program runs from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The cemetery portion of the event takes place first, operating from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Visitors at the South Cemetery on Main Street will view live actor portrayals of historical Woodbury residents who fought in the Revolutionary War. The actors will perform directly beside the graves of the veterans. The program also features a presentation detailing the history of the three local cemeteries, including displays and examples of stone restoration.
The event moves down the hill to the Glebe House Museum and Garden at 49 Hollow Road from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for house tours and refreshments on the lawn. The museum showcase includes regional architecture and period furnishings manufactured directly in Woodbury. Attendees can learn about the early history of the property, which served as the home for the town’s first Anglican priest, John Marshall, his wife Sarah, and their nine children.

The museum tour will also highlight a secret meeting held by Connecticut Anglican clergy shortly after American independence was secured. The clergy gathered at the site to decide how to maintain their religious heritage while participating in the creation of the new nation.
Admission to the event is free, though donations are accepted to support the organizing groups. Both the Woodbury Cemetery Association and the Glebe House Museum operate as non-profit organizations that depend on public contributions. Advance registration is appreciated and can be completed online through the official museum or cemetery websites.
Designated vehicle parking is available on Main Street South next to the cemetery grounds. Additional parking options are located directly at the museum site and within the soccer field lot at Hollow Park.
