Former UConn standout Christyn Williams earns WNBA opportunity with Dallas Wings

Former University of Connecticut guard Christyn Williams has signed with the Dallas Wings, returning to the WNBA level following her performance in the inaugural season of the UPSHOT League.

The Little Rock, Arkansas, native spent her college basketball career at UConn before playing professionally for the Greensboro Groove. During her 14 games with the Groove in the 2026 season, the 5-foot-11 guard averaged 9.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 27.5 minutes per game.

Her time playing for UConn helped establish her competitive experience before joining the new professional women’s basketball platform. In Greensboro, Williams shot 41.1% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range while serving as a key contributor for the team.

Greensboro Groove head coach Janice Washington praised the former UConn player for her work ethic and performance during the season, noting that her play earned her the new opportunity with Dallas. UPSHOT League Commissioner Donna Orender also highlighted the signing as a success for the league’s mission.

Williams becomes the second player from the UPSHOT League to earn a WNBA contract, joining Michelle Onyiah, who previously signed with the Indiana Fever. The four-team league launched its inaugural season in 2026 under parent company Zawyer Sports and Entertainment.
