Ferguson Library announces February programs for children and teens

The Ferguson Library is offering a variety of educational and creative programs for children and teens throughout February, with activities designed to encourage reading, writing, and artistic expression. All programs are supported by the Friends of the Ferguson Library.
Among the ongoing initiatives is 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, a nationwide early literacy program available at all Ferguson Library branches. The challenge invites families with children from birth to kindergarten to read aloud together, promoting language development, closing vocabulary gaps, and fostering a lifelong love of reading. Parents and caregivers can enroll through the library’s Youth Services information desks.
Young writers are also invited to participate in the 2026 Stamford Literary Competition, which is now accepting entries. The annual contest celebrates student writing and is open to Stamford residents or students in grades 3 through 12. Submissions are due Friday, Feb. 6. The library notes that any AI-generated content is prohibited. Guidelines, categories, and entry forms are available at fergusonlibrary.org/friends.

In addition, the library has announced the Ferguson Library’s Teen Art Contest 2026, inspired by the upcoming Summer Learning Club theme, “Plant a Seed, Read.” The contest is open to Stamford students in grades 6 through 12 and will accept easily reproducible drawings on 8.5-by-11-inch white paper, as well as graphic design and digital artwork meeting specified resolution requirements. AI-generated material is not permitted.
The art contest opens March 1, with entries due April 6. The winning artist will receive a $50 Michaels gift certificate, and the selected artwork will be featured on Summer Learning Club materials. Entries may be submitted to the Youth Services Department at the Main Library or emailed to sdelgado@fergusonlibrary.org.
