Steve Forbert

Steve Forbert has spent a lifetime writing songs that find meaning in the everyday — small moments, passing thoughts, and the quiet poetry of ordinary life. Hailed by The New York Times as “an introspective, homespun philosopher,” Forbert’s work is rooted in observation, melody, and a voice that feels both familiar and unmistakably his own.

Emerging from the New York “new folk” scene in the late ’70s, Forbert quickly made his mark with Alive on Arrival and the breakout success of Jackrabbit Slim, featuring the hit “Romeo’s Tune.” Decades later, his songwriting remains as sharp and resonant as ever, earning comparisons to artists like Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Bruce Springsteen.

His latest album, Daylight Savings Time, reflects on time, change, and the simple magic of getting by — delivered with the same melodic ease and lyrical depth that have defined his career.

Live, Forbert strips things back to their essence: voice, guitar, harmonica, and a lifetime of stories. It’s a performance that feels present, personal, and entirely his own — a reminder that great songs don’t age, they deepen.

Melissa Ferrick has spent more than 30 years writing songs that don’t fit neatly into boxes — and that’s exactly the point. Indie, folk, punk, alternative… Ferrick moves freely between them, guided less by genre and more by instinct. What’s remained constant is the voice: raw, direct, and disarmingly honest.

Her songs feel lived-in. Confessional without being indulgent. Cathartic without losing control. It’s the kind of writing that invites you in quietly, then stays with you long after the last note.

In 2023, Ferrick signed with Kill Rock Stars — a label synonymous with fearless, authentic storytelling — and continues to release new work that reflects both where she’s been and where she’s going. To mark the 25th anniversary of Everything I Need, she’s revisited the album in its purest form: just voice and guitar, recorded live, no overdubs. It’s a return to the core of what makes her music hit.

Beyond the stage, Ferrick’s influence runs deep. A trailblazer for openly queer artists, educator, and mentor, she’s helped shape the landscape for a generation of independent musicians.

But at its heart, it’s still about the songs — and the way they land in a room.
