David Byrne is headed back to the stage — and to Wallingford — with a brand-new album and tour that promise to be as inventive and thought-provoking as ever. The legendary Talking Heads frontman will perform at Toyota Oakdale Theatre on October 7, 2025, as part of his just-announced Who Is the Sky? world tour.

The tour supports Byrne’s first studio album in seven years, Who Is the Sky?, out September 5 on Matador Records. Produced by Grammy winner Kid Harpoon (Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus) and arranged by New York’s Ghost Train Orchestra, the 12-track collection finds Byrne collaborating with a dynamic roster of artists, including St. Vincent, Hayley Williams of Paramore, Tom Skinner of The Smile, and longtime percussionist Mauro Refosco.

The album’s lead single, “Everybody Laughs,” is already generating buzz for its joyful sound and meditative lyrics — a balance Byrne describes as “music that can hold opposites simultaneously.” The accompanying video, directed by multimedia artist Gabriel Barcia-Colombo, hints at the personal-yet-universal themes explored throughout the record.

Backed by a 13-member ensemble of musicians, singers, and dancers — many of them alumni from the American Utopiaera — Byrne’s new live show will combine movement, music, and message. Known for blurring the lines between pop performance and avant-garde theater, Byrne says this tour is another step in his exploration of connection, absurdity, and joy.

“Do I like what I’m doing? Why am I writing songs, or working this job, or whatever? Does any of it matter?” Byrne asks. Who Is the Sky? is his way of answering — with humor, beauty, and groove.
