“The Husking Bee” Pumpkin Patch Train

It’s the fall harvest season, so what better way to celebrate and welcome the cooler weather than with a short 20-minute round-trip ride on a vintage train to the Danbury Railway Museum’s Pumpkin Patch? This popular annual family fund-raising event will take place on October 11-12, 18-19, and 25-26, beginning at 10:00 AM at the museum, with trains departing at 11:00 AM, 12:00 noon, 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, and 3:00 PM. On Saturday evenings, an additional twilight train will depart at 6:30 PM, featuring special activities at the patch. Also, the 11:00 AM trains on Saturdays will include the popular Storytime Express. Visit PumpkinTrain.org for details on these new additions and ticketing options. Children under 2 years old ride free.

Ride “The Husking Bee” Pumpkin Patch Train through the historic railyard in a 1920s passenger coach, pulled by a 77-year-old ALCo RS-1 diesel-electric locomotive (or other vintage locomotive, subject to availability) to the museum’s pumpkin patch, where everyone can select a free pumpkin and enjoy complimentary cider and cookies. There are numerous photo opportunities and even a vintage tractor!

Back due to popular demand is the “haunted caboose”—visit it if you dare! Inside the restored 100+-year-old Danbury Station, explore exhibits, artifacts, and multiple operating model train layouts for education and entertainment. Out in the railyard, you can go inside real railroad cars and locomotives. A fully-stocked gift shop is also on the premises.
