Connecticut’s Goose surprise releases fifth studio album Chain Yer Dragon

To the delight of fans worldwide, Goose dropped a surprise gift on Thursday: their fifth studio album, Chain Yer Dragon. Released on No Coincidence Records and produced by D. James Goodwin, the album arrives just four months after their acclaimed LP Everything Must Go. Despite the short gap, Chain Yer Dragon feels like an entirely different journey — one that invites listeners deep into the imaginative world of Goose.

The record opens with “Madalena,” a sparse, piano-led ballad that grows into something expansive and haunting. Frontman Rick Mitarotonda’s vocals carry the emotional weight of longing and restlessness, accompanied by Peter Anspach’s swelling keys. By the time Trevor Weekz’s bass and Cotter Ellis’s drums lock in, the track blooms into a timeless anthem — one that balances lyrical yearning with a chorus that refuses to let go. It’s a striking entry point into an album rich with narrative, place, and character.

Chain Yer Dragon doubles as a bridge between Goose’s past and present. Alongside live favorites like “Echo of A Rose,” “Empress of Organos,” “Rockdale,” and “Factory Fiction,” the record introduces new songs such as “Royal” and “Madalena.” Together, they expand the universe of The Night Rays Band, a concept first imagined by Mitarotonda and longtime songwriting partner Matt Campbell back in 2011.

“There’s a world-building component that feels like the driving force of this record,” says Mitarotonda. “These songs have been on a journey, and it feels right for them to finally have a home now.”

That sense of world-building is palpable. The album drifts through late-night barrooms, restless highways, and dreamlike meditations, all woven together by Goose’s signature balance of improvisation and precise storytelling. It’s a record that feels lived-in, brimming with both nostalgia and momentum.
