Coach Lisa Hodges, Bridgeport’s first black female coach inducted into Connecticut High School Association Hall of Fame
Yesterday, Head Coach Lisa Hodges of Kolbe Cathedral High School Girls Basketball was inducted into the Connecticut High School Coaches Association (CHSCA) Hall of Fame. This prestigious honor celebrates her remarkable leadership, dedication, and transformative impact on Kolbe Cathedral’s basketball program and its student-athletes.
Since taking over the head coaching role in 2003, Coach Hodges has led the team with unparalleled vision and commitment, turning a struggling program into one of the most elite teams in Connecticut. Her intense work ethic and unwavering leadership have transformed the girls’ basketball program from a team struggling to fill roster spots into perennial contenders for conference and state championships.
Reflecting on her storied career at Kolbe Cathedral, Coach Hodges has built strong relationships with her players, many of whom continue to return to visit and remain inspired by her mentorship. Assistant Coaches at Kolbe are her former players who excelled in the sport and academia and returned to work under her leadership.
Beyond the court, Hodges mentors countless young men and women, emphasizing the importance of education and how being educated leads to future success. Her impact stretches far beyond the gym walls, instilling life skills that have shaped her student-athletes into intensely successful individuals and inspirational leaders of the future.
Coach Hodges’ influence is evident in the 22 players from Kolbe Cathedral who have gone on to play at the collegiate level, with three continuing their careers professionally. Her advocacy for education and her unwavering leadership have made a lasting impact, creating a culture of excellence, perseverance, and teamwork at Kolbe Cathedral.
Coach Hodges induction into the CHSCA Hall of Fame not only highlights her outstanding contributions to girls’ basketball but also underscores the values she has instilled in countless student-athletes.
