British band Squeeze celebrates 50 years of music at Foxwoods this Saturday
Squeeze is celebrating 50 years of music with a fall tour and a stop at Foxwoods this Saturday, September 9th.
In 1978, Squeeze rose to prominence in the U.K. music scene during the punk revolution. They secured a deal with A&M Records after releasing a three-song E.P., which resulted in their debut self-titled album. The album contained songwriting hooks and melodies that were reminiscent of the British Invasion in the 60s. Their groundbreaking LP included hits such as “Take Me I’m Yours,” “Cool for Cats,” “Up the Junction,” “Pulling Mussels From A Shell,” “Black Coffee in Bed,” and “Labeled With Love.” In 1981, Squeeze made a remarkable impact in the U.S. with the release of classic hits like “Tempted,” “Hourglass,” and “853-5937” (from East Side Story.) The band disbanded in 1999 but reunited in 2007, releasing three new albums: Spot the Difference (2010), Cradle to the Grave (2015), and The Knowledge (2017.) In 2022, they released the Food for Thought E.P., which featured one new song, two reimagined songs, and three exclusive live tracks. The digital E.P. sales will benefit independent U.K. Food Banks. Moreover, both Difford and Tilbrook have also released various solo projects.
Squeeze currently consists of Chris and Glenn, as well as keyboardist Stephen Large and drummer Simon Hanson, who have been on board since 2007. Percussionist and backing vocalist Steve Smith has been a member since 2017, while pedal and lap steel guitarist Melvin Duffy joined in 2019. Former bassist for The Roots, Owen Biddle, became a member in 2020.
