Art/Place Gallery announces Quartet from February 5th to March 3rd

The public is invited to “Quartet”, the reception at Art/Place Gallery at 70 Sanford Street in Fairfield, of the work by 4 members on February 11 at 2-4 pm. The artists will talk about their work at 3. The show can be viewed daily from 12 to 5 pm.
Lynne Arovas says, “Energy in order is one way I would describe my work. Arranging expressive designs of nervous energy in a contained, structured way. The process of continually recutting, rearranging, gluing and sealing creates a tile like quality. Emotions, nature, and color inspire me and are often the intertwining themes in my collage.”
Diane Pollack says, “As a printmaker I have explored various media including collage, sewing and calligraphy to create multi-layered nuanced works. I studied Sumie-e brush painting, Yoga and dance which have added to my visual vocabulary. The female form as vessel has also been a constant in my artworks as I celebrate its generative power.”
Mollie Keller says, “The pictures in this series should really be called ‘what I did on my summer vacation.’ Each July I set myself a challenge to be met in a limited time with limited materials. This year started with wondering what would happen if I used oil pastels on canvas? But as it turned out the real challenge was in working four panels together. How could I say the same thing but differently?
So I call them Divertimenti because that is what they turned out to be: summertime diversions.”
Toby Michaels says, “Things change! inevitably. So goes my artwork over the years, styles, medium, materials, paint, clay, shapes, forms, line, design, series. Now black on white, white on black…a new series is evolving. I call for my muse and question, ‘why, what, where and when’, while wondering anxiously, ‘how’.”
