American Mural Project names Jennifer Chrein as new executive director

The American Mural Project (90 Whiting St, Winsted, CT 06098), home to the world’s largest indoor collaborative artwork, announced Jennifer Chrein as its new executive director on Jan. 6, 2026.

Chrein brings more than 30 years of experience in children’s educational entertainment, having held leadership roles at Sesame Workshop, Common Sense Networks, and other media organizations. She also co-created the preschool animated series Powerbirds and served as supervising producer on The Adventures of Doki.

Founder and Artistic Director Ellen Griesedieck said Chrein’s enthusiasm for the American Mural Project,’s collaborative mission and educational programs made her an ideal choice to lead the nonprofit into its next phase of growth.

Chrein said she was inspired by the mural’s scale and message about the central role of work in American life. “I felt the need to share the space, the mission, and the live performances and educational programs with as many people as possible,” she said.

At the American Mural Project, Chrein will work alongside Griesedieck to expand arts, tourism, and educational initiatives, aligning with the organization’s programming and the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
