American Mural Project (AMP), home to the world’s largest indoor collaborative work of art, has announced its January 2026 lineup of events, featuring family-friendly programs, teen art experiences and live jazz, along with free admission throughout the month for health care workers.

January marks the launch of AMP’s new WORKS FOR ME! initiative, which spotlights different fields of work central to community life. In January, the program honors health care professionals, who will receive free admission for the entire month.

The month begins Saturday, Jan. 10, with Family Day in partnership with White Memorial Conservation Center. Held on the second Saturday of each month, Family Day offers hands-on activities designed to engage children of all ages while celebrating the art of work. Admission is free for families.

Activities include story time and crafts with Beardsley Library guest Carol Parent at 11 a.m., scavenger hunts and kid-friendly tours at 2 p.m., and a Sense-sational Study interactive program at 1:30 p.m. White Memorial Conservation Center educators will bring a barred owl named Zelda and a Honduran milk snake named Peaches, inviting participants to explore and compare human and animal senses.

Family Days are supported by the Comis Foundation and Torrington Savings Bank. Teen Art Studio for ages 13 to 18 will run concurrently from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., offering a guided, drop-in creative space. A $5 materials fee applies, and advance registration is recommended.

On Friday, Jan. 23, AMP will host its Happy Hour Piano Series from 5 to 7 p.m., featuring jazz pianist, composer and arranger Christopher Casey. A graduate of the Hartt School, Casey has performed throughout New England and New York and has worked with notable jazz figures including Jackie McLean, Nat Reeves and Houston Person. Tickets are $8 and can be reserved in advance. The series is supported in part by the Greenberg family.

The following day, Saturday, Jan. 24, AMP will present a Teen Art Workshop: Game On! from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Led by artist and educator Gerald Moore, the interactive workshop centers on Moore’s creative project, THE GAME, which uses 3D acrylic shapes to build collaborative narratives, neighborhoods and storylines. The workshop is open to all skill levels, with a suggested $10 donation. Advance registration is encouraged.

Throughout January, AMP will offer free admission to health care workers as part of the WORKS FOR ME! program. Eligible participants include employees and employers in hospitals, medical and dental offices, pharmacies and related fields. AMP’s five-story, 120-foot-long mural and its accompanying audio tour in English and Spanish highlight the stories of everyday American workers.

AMP is open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Admission for guests accompanying WORKS FOR ME! participants is $15, $12 for seniors and veterans, $5 for students, and free for children under 5 and adults over 100. Audio tours are included with admission.

American Mural Project is located at 90 Whiting St. in Winsted. More information about programs, events and visiting AMP is available at AmericanMuralProject.org.
