Ridgefield Theater Barn announces cast for Radium Girls

Radium girls at ridgefield theatre barn in ridgefield, connecticut

The Ridgefield Theater Barn has announced the cast for Radium Girls, D.W. Gregory’s play inspired by the true story of young women who painted watch dials with glowing radium paint in the 1920s. The production opens Jan. 8 and runs through Jan. 23, 2027.

Ridgefield’s own Gina Pulice directs. The play follows a determined young worker who refuses to accept easy answers as her friends fall mysteriously ill. Facing corporate deception, scientific uncertainty, and overwhelming opposition, she searches for justice that would forever alter the American workplace.

Mariah Young of Bridgeport plays Grace Fryer, and Eric Novak of South Salem, N.Y., plays Arthur Roeder. Bruce Apar of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., and Josh Helmin-Walker of Sandy Hook each take on multiple roles. Edwin Rodriguez of Danbury plays Tom Kreider and the Reporter.

The cast also includes Angie Joachim and Melody Jones of Ridgefield, Marcy Sansolo of Westport, Katie Kelly of Watertown and Sedona Taylor of New Fairfield. Several actors play more than one character.

Pulice said the women “were teenagers when they went to work, and they did exactly what they were told.” She said their fight helped change the rules for every American who goes to work, and that the story still feels urgent a century later.

Set and costume design is by Claudia Noel Nerreau, and lighting design is by Mark Hankla, both of Ridgefield. Cody Newman handles sound design, and Renata Paglio is the props designer. Tina Morrissette of Brookfield is the stage manager, assisted by Clarissa Krasner of Ridgefield, and Susan Salzberg of Ridgefield is the assistant costume designer.

Performances are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on Jan. 10 and 17. All shows are at the Ridgefield Theater Barn, 37 Halpin Lane in Ridgefield.
