Connecticut Sun Foundation supports Habitat for Humanity build in Norwich

The Connecticut Sun Foundation and Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut hosted leadership and staff from the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday for a tour of a nearly completed home in Norwich. The home is being constructed for first-time homebuyer Leslie Souvenance and her 2-year-old daughter, who are expected to move in later this month.
A donation of $6,530 from the Connecticut Sun Foundation funded final additions to the project. The contribution covered the installation of a new bedroom window and a safety fence designed to create a secure outdoor area for Souvenance’s daughter.
Connecticut Sun President Jen Rizzotti and Director of Community Relations Shamare Holmes toured the property alongside members of the front office to meet with Souvenance and review the construction progress. Rizzotti noted that providing funding for the window and perimeter fence aligns with the foundation’s goal of supporting housing stability and family safety.
Rizzotti also cited previous community efforts, including a playground project built in Groton in collaboration with WNBA player Brittney Griner, as part of the team’s ongoing regional outreach. Holmes emphasized that targeted contributions to organizations like Habitat for Humanity allow the foundation to address specific home development needs within localized budgets.
The construction team is completing the final details on the house ahead of the family’s scheduled move-in date. The project marks another collaboration between the professional sports organization’s charitable arm and Eastern Connecticut community development groups.
