Sacred Heart Community Theater and Mohegan Sun to host Gregg Allman documentary

Connecticut audiences will have two opportunities this fall to view “Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul,” a new feature documentary centered on the life and career of the late Allman Brothers Band co-founder. The roadshow tour brings the film to the Sacred Heart Community Theater in Fairfield on October 4, followed by a presentation at Comix Roadhouse at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville on November 8.

The November 8 event in Uncasville will feature a live post-screening discussion and audience question-and-answer session. Lead producer and Allman’s longtime manager Michael Lehman will speak alongside author Alan Paul following the film.

Directed by James Keach, the documentary examines Allman’s trajectory from a childhood marked by his father’s murder to his rise as a key figure in Southern rock. The narrative detailed in the film explores his musical career, his struggles with substance abuse, his marriage to Cher, and the impact of the death of his brother and bandmate, Duane Allman.

The film incorporates vintage concert footage, archival audio, and interviews to detail the Allman Brothers Band’s musical development. It highlights the group’s integration of Black musical traditions and their rejection of Southern racial segregation during the era.

Organizers designed the nationwide tour to present the documentary in venues equipped with high-fidelity sound systems rather than traditional multiplexes. The overall screening campaign runs through December 8, 2027, with two dollars from every ticket sold benefiting local live music charities or the Gregg Allman Scholarship Funds.
