Connecticut Sun to name Curt Miller as franchise legend during upcoming game

The Connecticut Sun will honor former head coach and general manager Curt Miller as a Sun Legend on Thursday, July 2. The special halftime ceremony will take place during the game against the Dallas Wings at PeoplesBank Arena. Miller will be recognized alongside Jasmine Thomas during the presentation.

During his tenure from 2016 through 2022, Miller built one of the most successful eras in the franchise’s history. He compiled a 140–86 overall record across 226 games, finishing with a 61.95 winning percentage. Under his leadership, the team established a defensive identity and became a regular championship contender.

Miller earned WNBA Coach of the Month honors three times and was named both the WNBA and Associated Press Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2021. In 2017, he also became the first person to win the WNBA’s Basketball Executive of the Year award for his work as general manager. Between 2017 and 2022, the Sun accumulated a 126–66 record, which was the best mark among all WNBA teams during that span.

In a statement reflecting on his seven seasons, Miller expressed gratitude to the ownership, staff, players, and fan base for their support. He noted that the organization created a winning culture and a family-like environment that helped bring unprecedented success to the team.

Following his time with the Connecticut franchise, Miller served as the head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks. He later transitioned to the Dallas Wings, where he currently serves as the Executive Vice President and General Manager.

With this recognition, Miller joins a select group of previously honored franchise figures. The list of Sun Legends includes Jonquel Jones, Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Margo Dydek, Nykesha Sales, Katie Douglas, Lindsay Whalen, and Asjha Jones.
