Professional golf instructor Heath Wassem joins Ridgefield boarding school as Director of Golf

The Golf Performance Academy added professional golfer Heath Wassem to its coaching staff in Connecticut during the spring 2026 academic semester. Wassem assumes leadership responsibilities as the institution expands its operational footprint across multiple regional facilities. The organization maintains training centers in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and Port St. Lucie, Florida, with the southern campus having opened in August 2025.

Wassem works directly under the supervision of Manuel Bermudez, the overarching director of golf based at the Florida training facility. Together, the instructors oversee a year-round program that integrates skill development, physical training, mental coaching, and tournament preparation. The academy utilizes specialized sports technology to create individual evaluation plans with an instructional ratio of six students for every coach.

The academy recently graduated four seniors from its Connecticut program, all of whom transitioned to compete in collegiate golf programs. Wassem previously competed as a NCAA Division I collegiate golfer and participated in multiple qualification events for the PGA Tour. He joins the regional institution to assist subsequent classes of competitive student-athletes in preparing for collegiate and professional fields.

Prior to his current appointment, Wassem maintained a 30-year membership with the PGA and served as the head professional at Fenway Golf Club in Scarsdale, New York for 21 years. He also spent more than 18 years as a board member for the Metropolitan PGA Section, eventually serving as the organization’s section president. He currently resides in Mount Kisco, New York with his wife and three children.

The Golf Performance Academy continues to recruit competitive junior golfers in grades eight through 12 for its year-round training programs. The educational institution utilizes a holistic approach combining performance science, competition planning, academic support, and character development.
