The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is keeping its galleries open late this summer for a recurring evening series. Happy Hour Fridays will run every Friday from June 12 through Labor Day, excluding July 3 and July 24. The weekly events take place from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and are included with standard museum admission.

Visitors can view the current exhibition, The Aldrich Decennial: I am what is around me, which features works by 40 Connecticut-based artists. The museum is offering gallery tours alongside hands-on activities in The Studio. The surrounding Sculpture Garden will also showcase newly installed outdoor artworks, where guests can buy wine and beer for $8. Museum members receive one free drink ticket at the front desk upon arrival.

The series kicks off on June 12 with a 7:00pm screening of the film The Harvard 5, directed by Devon Chivvis. While the screening itself is at capacity, happy hour tickets remain available. The film will be followed by a discussion moderated by the museum’s executive director, Cybele Maylone, featuring Chivvis and Bruce Becker of Hotel Marcel.

On both June 12 and June 19, artist Tim Youd will perform Connecticut Retyped. Visitors can watch Youd manually retype Richard Yates’s novel Revolutionary Road on a period-accurate typewriter in the galleries. The live project reflects the author’s ties to the state and the local suburban landscape that inspired the book.

A partnership with the Center for Contemporary Printmaking is scheduled for June 26. The museum will host a drop-in screen printing workshop using first-come, first-served materials. Attendees can print custom museum merchandise onto provided tote bags or bring items from home to upcycle.

Live performances will continue later in the summer. On July 31, vocalists from A.C.T. of Connecticut will perform live music pieces inspired by the artwork on display. On August 7, the museum hosts Weird Music Night, an experimental sound and art series developed by artist and educator John O’Donnell in collaboration with the Ely Center of Contemporary Art.

Throughout the summer, the series will serve beer from Nod Hill Brewery. Hot dog vendor Chez Lenard will also join the museum on select evenings to provide food.
