Coaster Con brings hundreds of roller coaster fans to Lake Compounce

The annual convention for the American Coaster Enthusiasts organization began yesterday, drawing more than 630 ride enthusiasts from around the world. The six-day event, known as Coaster Con 48, features exclusive ride access, behind-the-scenes tours, educational presentations, and special gatherings. The convention operations are split across three regional amusement parks, including Lake Compounce in Bristol, Connecticut.
The convention coincides with World Roller Coaster Appreciation Month, bringing together members representing 36 states and three countries. Lake Compounce serves as a primary focus for the regional itinerary due to its specific collection of historic and modern roller coasters. All three participating host venues for this year’s convention house an officially designated American Coaster Enthusiasts Roller Coaster Landmark.
At the Connecticut park, attendees are scheduled to highlight and experience classic wooden structures alongside modern thrill attractions. The historic Wildcat roller coaster holds the official landmark status at the facility. Additionally, convention schedules include dedicated time on Boulder Dash, which is noted for its distinctive hillside setting.

The multi-park convention schedule also includes events at Six Flags New England in Massachusetts and The Great Escape in New York. Outside of track time, the convention itinerary features the organization’s annual business meeting, the Midway Olympics, and a series of photo and video competitions. A silent auction and regional meetups are also integrated into the week’s programming.
The week will conclude with the organization’s annual banquet featuring a keynote address by Michael Graham, a principal of the ride design firm The Gravity Group. Attendees will also participate in the 10th anniversary of a charitable fundraising regatta at the New York host park on June 25. Internal organizational events continue throughout the week, including election platform presentations from candidates seeking national leadership positions before voting concludes on July 15.
