The outdoor Sun Patio at Mohegan Sun is expanding its summer lineup with a newly scheduled performance from multi-platinum artist Afroman. The rapper, singer, and musician will take the stage on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The performance is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. as part of the venue’s ongoing Sun Patio Concert Series. The premier outdoor space includes a full bar and deck accessible for guests aged 21 and older. All shows in the series are general admission and will take place rain or shine.

Tickets for the outdoor show will become available through Ticketmaster on Friday, May 22nd. Visitors looking to purchase tickets in person can visit the Mohegan Sun Box Office starting Saturday, May 23rd.

Afroman’s path to the music industry began early. He started recording homemade songs and selling them to classmates in the eighth grade. He also developed his musical background by playing drums and guitar in his church at a young age.

His debut album, My Fro-losophy, was released in 1998. He later moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where he connected with drummer Jody Stallone, keyboardist and bassist Darrell Havard, and producer Tim Ramenofsky.

Ramenofsky produced the 2000 album Because I Got High, which initially gained traction through live performances and the file-sharing service Napster. The title track found a massive audience after airing on The Howard Stern Show. Afroman wrote the lyrics after avoiding cleaning his room, focusing on how everyday tasks can get derailed.

The track became a major hit in late 2001, eventually earning a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Solo Performance in 2002. The song was also featured on the soundtracks for several films, including Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, The Perfect Score, and Disturbia.

Following the success of the single, Afroman joined Cypress Hill’s Smoke Out festival alongside acts like the Deftones and Method Man. Universal Records subsequently signed him to a six-album contract and released the compilation album The Good Times in 2001.

By 2004, the artist transitioned to releasing his work independently and via the internet. His independent releases included the 2004 project Jobe Bells, which satirized traditional holiday music. He later joined the lineup for the Gathering of the Juggalos in 2010.

In more recent years, Afroman has used his platform to advocate for legalization efforts across the country. He released a remix of his signature hit in October 2014 to highlight the uses of marijuana. In January 2021, he signed with the record label Cosmic Wire, releasing the single “WHOLEthing” ahead of his subsequent album.
