Norwalk Symphony and Fairfield County Chorale to perform Mendelssohn’s ‘Elijah’

The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra and the Fairfield County Chorale will collaborate to present Felix Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” on Saturday, May 16, 2026. The performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Norwalk Concert Hall.

The Old Testament oratorio is recognized as a masterpiece of the Romantic era, known for its emotional depth and dramatic storytelling. The work is also noted as a marker of the composer’s pride in his Jewish heritage.

The collaboration follows years of discussion between Jonathan Yates, music director of the Norwalk Symphony, and David Rosenmeyer, music director of the Fairfield County Chorale.

The performance features a lineup of soloists led by bass Cory McGee in the title role of Elijah. Joining him are Elizabeth Pojanowski James (alto), Derrek Stark (tenor), and Amelia Watkins (soprano). The octet is completed by Mary Petro Noonan (second soprano), Chris Bell (second bass), Pedro Sequera (second tenor), and Wendy Gerbier (second alto).

In addition to the musical performance, organizers are asking attendees to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to The Pantry at CT State Community College Norwalk.

The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra is a professional organization dedicated to live performance and music education in Southwestern Connecticut. The Fairfield County Chorale is a critically acclaimed group focused on the appreciation of excellence in choral literature.

The Norwalk Concert Hall is located at 125 East Ave. Individual tickets are available for $25, $40, or $60 for adults, and $10 for students under 18. Tickets may be purchased at norwalksymphony.org, by calling 203-956-6771, or at the door starting at 6:30 p.m.
