There’s a new seal making waves in the world of Super Bowl predictions. Mikey, an almost two‑year‑old grey seal at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, made his first‑ever Super Bowl prediction and picked the New England Patriots as the winners of Super Bowl LX.

Mikey’s debut continues a beloved tradition that began 15 years ago at the Aquarium and was made popular by Rasal, a harbor seal whose spirited personality and prediction accuracy made her a fan favorite. Following Rasal’s passing, Mikey stepped up and into the spotlight.

During the event, Mikey was presented with two footballs, each marked with a competing team’s logo. After a brief swim to assess his options, he made a decisive pick: the Patriots.

His first public prediction came with its own pressure — especially given Rasal’s strong 4-3 record, which set a high benchmark throughout the years. Not to mention, she recently scored a three-peat by correctly predicting the Super Bowl champs in 2023, 2024, and 2025. The seals’ overall record is 7-7.

Super Bowl predictions are part of a larger enrichment program at The Maritime Aquarium, where trainers provide opportunities for animals to think, explore, and interact with new objects and stimuli. For Mikey, today’s pick was equal parts playtime and primetime.

“Mikey loves to learn new behaviors. He has been learning this behavior since right before the holidays and has gotten the hang of it really quickly,” says Trainer Alexis Brauner. “I am confident that Mikey will start his own impressive accuracy streak with the Super Bowl pick!”

Mikey is the first grey seal to live at the Aquarium. He was born on February 17, 2024, at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago, and came to The Maritime Aquarium on December 4, 2024.
