Playhouse on Park announces cast for ‘Gutenberg! The Musical!’ running Jan. 21–Feb. 8

Playhouse on Park (244 Park Rd, West Hartford, CT 06119) has announced the cast for its upcoming production of Gutenberg! The Musical!, the high-energy comedy by Anthony King and Scott Brown that will run Jan. 21 through Feb. 8.

The production will be directed by Sasha Brätt, with music direction by Miles Messier. Previews begin Jan. 21 at Playhouse on Park, 244 Park Road.

The two-person musical follows Bud Davenport and Doug Simon, a pair of hopeful playwrights pitching an over-the-top Broadway musical about Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press. Armed with costumes, props and boundless enthusiasm, the duo plays every role in their historical epic, turning a simple audition into a fast-paced, laugh-filled sendup of show-business ambition.

The cast features Jeremiah Ginn as Bud Davenport and John Wascavage as Doug Simon, with Jimmy Donohue serving as swing.

Ginn’s credits include Off-Broadway productions of The Big Gay Jamboree, A Sign of the Times and Murder for Two, along with national tours of Anastasia, A Chorus Line and Murder for Two. Wascavage has appeared Off-Broadway in Forbidden Broadway: Merrily We Stole a Song and Who Is Jimmy Pants?, and toured nationally with Dog Man: The Musical and Murder for Two. Donohue’s recent performances include Elf the Musical at Seven Angels Theatre, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and First Date.

Brätt returns to Playhouse on Park after directing past productions including All Is Calm, Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, The Revisionist, Tuesdays with Morrie, The Dining Room and Othello.

The musical is recommended for audiences ages 12 and up and runs approximately two hours, including one 15-minute intermission.

Preview performances are scheduled for Jan. 21 and 22. The regular run continues Jan. 23 through Feb. 8, with performances Tuesday through Sunday. Select matinees will include post-show talkbacks with the cast. Discounted morning performances are set for Jan. 29 and Feb. 6 at 10:30 a.m., with all tickets priced at $25 plus a service charge.

Tickets are now on sale. Preview tickets are $35, with regular performances ranging from $45 to $55, plus service fees. Discounts are available for students, seniors, military members and patrons under 40. The production is also part of Playhouse on Park’s four-show subscription series.
