Connecticut Attorney General William Tong to speak at annual Howard C. Kaplan Memorial Lecture

William Tong, Connecticut’s 25th Attorney General and the first Asian American elected at the statewide level, will be the featured speaker at this year’s Howard C. Kaplan Memorial Lecture on Law and Society. The event will take place Wednesday, November 12, at 6 p.m. in the DiMattia Building of the Main Library. Participants are invited to submit questions to Attorney General Tong upon registration.

Before taking office in January 2019, Tong served 12 years in Connecticut’s General Assembly representing the 147th District, which includes North Stamford and Darien. Most recently, he was House Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, overseeing legislation on constitutional law, criminal law, civil rights, consumer protection, probate, judicial nominations, and other major areas of substantive law. During his legislative career, Tong helped pass landmark measures such as the Connecticut Second Chance Act, the Domestic Violence Restraining Order Act, the Lost and Stolen Firearms Act, the Act Protecting Homeowner Rights, and the Act Protecting Schoolchildren.

The annual lecture honors Howard C. Kaplan, a Bronx native who moved to Stamford after graduating from Yale Law School to join Wofsey, Rosen, Kweskin & Kuriansky, where he became a partner. Kaplan was deeply involved in the Stamford community, serving on the Board of Representatives, founding the Stamford Board of Ethics, and holding leadership roles with the Stamford Child Care Center and Stamford Land Conservation Trust.
