An intimate duo performance by composer and percussionist Sarah Hennies and bassist Tristan Kasten-Krause will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 7 PM as part of The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum’s public programs. Tickets are $10 for members and students and $15 for general admission.

Hennies and Kasten-Krause will present a 40–60 minute set of experimental music within the Museum’s galleries, creating a meditative and resonant experience that explores the interplay between sound, space, and visual art. Known for her immersive and durational performances, Hennies examines psychoacoustic phenomena, queerness, and the act of listening. Her collaboration with Kasten-Krause emphasizes sensitivity and restraint, crafting expansive works that unfold gradually over time.

This performance is presented in conjunction with Zak Prekop: Durations, on view through January 11, 2026. The exhibition explores visual rhythm, repetition, and the temporality of painting and coincides with the launch of Prekop’s first museum publication. The fully illustrated 32-page softcover catalogue features bold new abstract paintings and an interview with curator Eduardo Andres Alfonso and will be available for purchase at the event.

Hennies and Kasten-Krause compose large-scale works employing drones, psychoacoustic effects, and extended techniques on double bass, gongs, vibraphone, and other percussion instruments. Their performances combine delicate high-pitched tones, deep resonances, and slowly unfolding durations, creating mysterious and immersive sonic landscapes.

Individually, Hennies is an internationally acclaimed composer, recipient of the 2024 United States Artist Fellowshipand a 2019 Grants to Artists award from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts. She also participated in the 2024 Whitney Biennial and teaches music at Bard College. Kasten-Krause is a sought-after composer-performer in New York City, performing with ensembles including Talea Ensemble, Contemporaneous, Bang on a Can, and others. The duo has appeared at venues such as JACK (NYC), Suoni Per Il Popolo (Montreal), Re:Sound (Cleveland), and Basilica Hudson (Hudson, NY). Upcoming premieres include a new work at the Wassaic Project in late 2025 and an electroacoustic piece at the Groupe de Recherche Musicale (GRM) in Paris in 2026.
