Northfield releases new single “Take Me Out” ahead of debut album Lost and Found

Litchfield, Conn.-based indie rock band Northfield has released its fourth single, “Take Me Out,” in anticipation of its debut album Lost and Found, set for release this fall via Pilot Light Records. The hard-driving track is now streaming worldwide on Spotify, Apple Music, and other major platforms, following the earlier singles “It’s Too Easy,” “Let Me Break Your Heart,” and “Some Days.”
Northfield has earned a reputation for singer-songwriter Jesse Perkins’ poignant lyrics and memorable melodies, which blend intelligence and emotion with a rare clarity. Perkins’ songs often shift seamlessly between light-hearted joy and reflective melancholy, capturing fleeting moments of life with poetic precision.
On “Take Me Out,” Perkins explores the complexities of a fraught relationship. “Somewhat abusive or manipulative, or at least complicated,” he explained. “Sadly, it’s not uncommon for people to feel trapped in a situation, accepting the bad with the good instead of leaving.”
The song’s lyrics reflect this tension:
Falling through the fireworks, choke it back before it hurts
Holding on to your last resort, like it’s all you’ve got for what it’s worth
Crawling across the kitchen floor, carrying on all night
And we’ll walk our way back home
Though the songs on Lost and Found feel contemporary, many were written over 25 years ago. After a successful career in teaching and raising a family, Perkins rediscovered his early passion for music and formed Northfield in 2024. The album title reflects both the rediscovery of his old songs and Perkins’ renewed musical journey.

“Like many of the bands we grew up listening to — Dinosaur Jr., Wilco, Pavement — Northfield is a garage rock band at heart,” Perkins said. “We stumble somewhere between indie rock and alt-country, often forgetting which was the goal to begin with. I always say Northfield is the musical equivalent of your favorite old flannel: a little frayed, a lot worn, and probably something you’ve had since the ’90s.”
Marc Alan of Pilot Light Records praised Perkins’ songwriting: “I am constantly amazed by Jesse’s songs — his deep expression of ideas and complex emotions resonate with listeners of all ages. He seems to have had an innate understanding of the human condition at a young age and the ability to turn that into well-crafted songs. That’s remarkable.”
Perkins reflected on the songwriting process for “Take Me Out,” noting the challenge of crafting a song with a bridge before the second verse, inspired by The Beatles’ Don’t Let Me Down. “It was the only time it really felt natural,” he said. “I love that bridge and the chaotic energy of this recording.”
“Take Me Out” was recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered by Perkins and Mike Goldberg at Good Enough Records in Litchfield and Studio By A River in Tariffville. Northfield is currently performing throughout Connecticut and plans to tour extensively to support Lost and Found.
“We’re just having a blast recording and playing music,” Perkins said. “Our album may have been written 25 years ago, but here we are — better late than never.”
