Ink and Impressions: 110 Years of the Society of American Graphic Artists

The Housatonic Museum of Art in Bridgeport, Connecticut, is proud to present Ink and Impressions: 110 Years of the Society of American Graphic Artists (SAGA), a landmark national exhibition that honors the enduring legacy and innovation of American printmaking. This milestone show opens September 10, 2025, and will remain on view through February 13, 2026, at the museum’s Burt Chernow Galleries in Lafayette Hall.

Founded in 1915, the Society of American Graphic Artists has played a pivotal role in shaping the field of printmaking in the United States. With 160 hand-pulled prints from artists across more than 30 states, Ink and Impressions reflects SAGA’s rich history while showcasing the bold, diverse practices of its members past and present. This exhibition marks not only the society’s 110th anniversary but also celebrates 90 years of its annual exhibitions.

To commemorate the opening, the museum will host a public reception on Wednesday, September 10 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Visitors are invited to meet participating artists, enjoy light refreshments, and experience the powerful range of work on display. Admission to the reception and the exhibition is free.

Prints in the show span a wide variety of techniques including intaglio, wood engraving, lithography, and mokuhanga. The works on view include pieces by renowned figures in American art such as Anne Chernow, Ruth Leaf, Isabel Bishop, and Rafael Soyer, alongside contemporary artists who are continuing to expand the possibilities of the medium.
