Tickets still available for exclusive Harvey Fierstein quilt exhibition at Keeler Tavern Museum on July 25-27

It’s show time! This Friday through Sunday only, Keeler Tavern Museum is hosting an exclusive exhibition of Tony Award-winning playwright, actor, and activist Harvey Fierstein’s quilts. “You Made That?” The Quilting Adventures of Harvey Fierstein is the first-ever public display of Harvey’s quilts. The exhibition will open with a reception on Thursday, July 24, run from July 25-27, and close with a newly added meet and greet on Sunday, July 27.
Tickets for the exhibition and Sunday’s meet and greet are still available – purchase yours now, before they sell out!
Harvey’s quilt exhibition exuberantly demonstrates his personality and activism, exploring themes of self-expression, joy, fear, oppression, community, identity, and memory. The textiles reflect some of Harvey’s artistic influences – R.C. Gorman, Matisse, Josephine Baker, Warhol, Klimt, Modigliani – with a mindful nod to the American tradition of quilt-making and in cooperation with today’s quilt-making community. The quilts feature striking imagery, with vivid colors depicting a wide variety of bold patterns and scenes: self-portraiture, nudes, landscapes, drag, ‘doodles,’ and more.
“You Made That?” The Quilting Adventures of Harvey Fierstein will kick off with a special sold-out reception on Thursday, July 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the Garden House, where attendees will have early access to the exhibition and meet-and-greet with Harvey while enjoying refreshments catered by À Table. Local bookstore Books on the Common will also be in attendance, selling signed copies of Harvey’s autobiography, I Was Better Last Night – a New York Times bestseller.
The exhibition will be on view to the public from Friday, July 25 through Sunday, July 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with timed tickets still available each day.
Due to overwhelming demand, Harvey has graciously agreed to add another Meet & Greet on Sunday, July 27 from 4 to 5 p.m. This intimate event is a great way to see the impressive quilts on display – and hear directly from Harvey himself about his artistic process.
For old and new fans of Harvey’s artwork, there are more ways to celebrate his quilting accomplishments – whether you can attend the exhibition or not! Purchase raffle tickets for the chance to own one of Harvey’s handmade quilts. Ticket sales will close at noon on Monday, July 28 and the winner will be chosen that evening (attendance not needed to win).
Additionally, custom exhibition tote bags boasting Harvey’s signature are on sale now – a great way to show your pride. The totes are available for purchase at KTM&HC and on the website of exhibition sponsor Cotton Candy Fabrics & Quilts, cottoncandyfabrics.com.
Thank you to our sponsors, Cotton Candy Fabrics & Quilts and Adam Broderick Salon & Spa, for generously supporting KTM&HC and the exhibition. Throughout the exhibition, Cotton Candy Fabrics & Quilts will host a pop-up shop in KTM&HC’s historic Carriage Barn, featuring Harvey’s favorite quilting supplies and live quilting demonstrations. Pop-up shop hours: Friday, July 25 through Sunday, July 27, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m.
