Rock and Roll Drum-O-Rama

The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, “the Kate”, presents Rock and Roll Drum-O-Rama on Monday, July 28, 2025 at 7:00 pm featuring three of Connecticut’s most accomplished rock drummers – Mickey Curry, Rich Dart, and Matt Starr with bassist Dean Falcone.
Mickey, Rich and Matt will showcase their individual drumming techniques and share experiences from the recording studio and life on tour. They’ll be joined by special guest bassist Dean Falcone to demonstrate some favorite tracks they’ve played on. A raucous finale with all three playing live on stage is followed by Q&A with the audience and a meet-and-greet.
Mickey Curry is a drummer and session musician best known for his work with Hall and Oates and Bryan Adams. He has spent his 50 year career recording and touring with numerous artists in a variety of musical genres (The Cult, Cher, Bruce Cockburn, Tina Turner and more) and has played drums on hundreds of recordings, many of them hits. Mickey was born and raised on the Connecticut shoreline where he lives with his wife Susan. Mickey can be seen with Joe Bouchard (founding member of Blue Öyster Cult) and his band at the Kate on Saturday, August 16th.
Rich Dart has been a percussionist for over 30 years. The New York Times called him “A remarkable percussionist” and he is best known as the touring drummer for The Monkees and Micky Dolenz. The list of people he has performed with includes the late great, Lionel Hampton, Greg Piccolo, Mark Lindsay, Kim Shattuck, Gerry Corbetta (Sugarloaf), Al Anderson, Jimmy Vaughn, Rosie Flores, Kimberely Locke, Nellie’s Echo, Terry Sylvester of The Hollies and many, many more. Rich has played on Broadway for the shows “Avenue Q” and “Pippin” as well as the national tours with both. He has performed with many orchestras in the Connecticut area including the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra.
Dart is a founding member of the popular country/rock band, Creamed Corn and is the current drummer with the popular hockey rock band, The Zambonis. In the 1990s he had two top ten college radio hits with his band, The Maggies, and has recorded with many artists and appears on several film and television soundtracks. Most recently, his marimba playing can be heard on the hit song, “Archipelago” by Dr. Westchesterson. He is an endorser for Vater Drumsticks, Sabian Cymbals, Toca Percussion and Humes and Berg cases.
Matt Starr is a drummer, singer, producer, career coach and public speaker. As a drummer, Matt has built a reputation for working with some of rock’s most influential musicians including Ace Frehley (KISS), Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow), Kevin DuBrow (Quiet Riot), George Lynch (Dokken), and Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert in Mr. Big. He has also worked with members of Guns ‘n Roses, Bon Jovi, Foreigner and Whitesnake. In the studio Matt has recorded with producers Jimmy Bralower (VP A&R Atlantic Records, Madonna, Mick Jagger, Joan Jett), Toby Wright (Metallica, Alice In Chains, Korn), Mike Chapman (Blondie, The Knack, The Sweet), Dave Bianco (AC/DC, Tom Petty, KISS), Anthony Focx (Aerosmith, Foreigner) and Warren Huart (Aerosmith, The Fray). Matt’s column The BIG Deal with Matt Starr in Drumhead Magazine helps musicians navigate the music business as well as understand the difference between “playing a drum roll and getting paid to play a drum roll’. His workshop and course NEXT LEVEL FOR PRO MUSICIANS has taken Matt around the world speaking to musicians and non-musicians in both academic and corporate settings.
Dean Falcone is a multi-instrumentalist and eclectic pop/rock composer/producer, who’s been playing in bands since his pre-teens. He’s scored several films and he’s helmed many acts such as The Excerpts (Jon Brion), 100 Faces, Dean & the Dragsters, the Shellye Valauskas Experience, The Manchurians (Grammy nominated songwriter Roger C. Reale) Tipsy in Chelsea and The Zambonis among others and has recorded and toured nationally with many artists. Dean’s also the anything-goes impresario of the legendary “Vomitorium” every Thanksgiving at Café Nine in New Haven, Connecticut.
He has played live or in the studio with such artists as Brian May (Queen), Chris Franz and Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads), Jon Brion, Aimee Mann, Norah Jones, Neko Case, Susanna Hoffs, Eddie Vedder, members of Cheap Trick, Big Star, The Posies, Todd Rundgren, Juliana Hatfield, Goo Goo Dolls, Rex Smith, Bobcat Goldthwait, Mike Viola, Charlie Daniels and others. Currently, he is involved in several recording projects and upcoming documentaries.
