Concert Review: The Record Company Delivers Grit, Soul and Synergy in High-Energy Wolf Den Set at Mohegan Sun

More than a decade into their career, The Record Company has built something rare—a true musical brotherhood. Since forming in 2011, the GRAMMY®-nominated trio—Chris Vos, Alex Stiff, and Marc Cazorla—has developed a near-telepathic connection on stage, honed over years of touring, recording, and trusting each other through every creative high and low. Known for their bluesy grit, airtight grooves, and heartfelt songwriting, they’ve played everywhere from Bonnaroo to late-night TV, all while staying true to their Americana roots. On Saturday night, as part of their Roll With It tour, The Record Company brought their signature soul and synergy to a packed crowd at the Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun, delivering a high-energy set that felt even more special considering it was a free show.
With no opener to set the stage, The Record Company wasted no time diving into an electric set, launching straight into “In the Mood for You” and “Rita Mae Young.” But the crowd didn’t need warming up—the energy was high from the start, proving that the band’s sheer presence was more than enough to ignite the room. One notable difference at this show was singer Chris Vos, who recently underwent surgery for a slipped disc. For most of the set, Chris remained seated—except for a few high-energy moments, like his fiery guitar solo during “Hard Day Coming Down,” where he couldn’t help but break free. Despite the setback, his incredible spirit and willpower proved unstoppable—the band didn’t cancel a single show on this tour. That persistence added an extra layer of meaning to the performance, showcasing the group’s deep dedication to both their craft and their fans.

Each member brought their own vibe and personality to the stage in a way that felt totally effortless. Chris delivered those gritty, soul-packed vocals and ripped through guitar lines with so much feeling—even while sitting down, you could feel every ounce of passion. Alex Stiff kept things steady and smooth on bass, laying down driving grooves while throwing in tight harmonies and this super chill stage presence that grounded the whole set. Both he and Chris also broke out some killer harmonica solos during “The Movie Song” and “On the Move” that got the crowd cheering every time. Drummer Marc Cazorla brought serious flair behind the kit, balancing precision and groove effortlessly while adding warmth with his backing vocals. Together, their chemistry was undeniable—the kind of instinctive connection that only comes from years of playing side by side.

Midway through the set, the band shifted gears for a stripped-down acoustic segment, but even with the volume dialed back, their signature bluesy grit remained front and center. Performing tracks like “Talk to Me” and “Control My Heart Blues,” the trio proved that their raw sound doesn’t rely on heavy amplification—it lives in the soul of their playing. They even threw in a wildly fun acoustic cover of the Beastie Boys’ “So What’cha Want,” giving the classic track a blues-rock twist that still had the crowd fired up. Before launching into the set, Chris took a moment to reflect on his roots growing up on a dairy farm, raised by his mother, painting a picture of a classic American upbringing that clearly still influences his storytelling and the band’s grounded, authentic sound. He made a point to connect with the crowd on a personal level, speaking to the impact of small-town life and the idea that no matter where you’re from, everyone has at least one person who sticks by them—someone who keeps you going when things get tough.

To close out the night, The Record Company brought the house down with an encore that had the crowd rocking until the very last note. They kicked things off with a punchy cover of The Kinks’ “All Day and All of the Night,” putting their own bluesy spin on it and getting everyone hyped. They wrapped things up with “I’m Getting Better (And I’m Feeling It Right Now),” a perfect tune for a band that’s still crushing it after more than a decade together. If you’ve never seen them live, you’re in for a treat—The Record Company brings energy, raw talent, and that genuine connection to every show. Whether you’ve been following them since their early days or you’re new to their sound, their performances are always packed with heart and soul, and you can count on them to leave it all on the stage every time.
