Elm City Vet ( 269 Orange St, New Haven, CT 06510) , a brand-new primary care veterinary hospital officially opened on March 17, 2025. Conveniently located just blocks from the New Haven Green, Elm City Vet brings high-quality, compassionate care to the pets and families of New Haven and surrounding areas.

Designed with pet owners’ busy schedules in mind, Elm City Vet plans to offer evening and weekend hours to make accessing care easier than ever. The hospital is also part of the Pieper Veterinary network, providing clients seamless access to 24/7 emergency, urgent care, specialty and primary care services across Connecticut.

“We’re excited to be a community-focused practice in the heart of New Haven,” said Dr. Julia Chant, DVM, CVA, CVSMT, Elm City Vet’s lead veterinarian. “Our goal is to keep your furry family members happy and healthy while being a trusted partner in their care—whether for routine wellness visits or more urgent needs.”

Dr. Chant, a Connecticut native from Meriden, holds a veterinary degree from Ross University, where she graduated in 2003. She’s certified in Veterinary Acupuncture and Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy, allowing her to offer integrative care options to her patients.

Dr. Chant is deeply committed to animal welfare and serves on the board of The Feline Connection cat rescue in Vermont. She also works with Homeward Bound Humane Society, providing surgical care.

Elm City Vet: A Community-Focused Approach

Elm City Vet is proud to support and partner with local businesses and organizations. The hospital has already participated in New Haven’s annual Pride celebration and co-hosted the inaugural Paws on the Promenade pet festival alongside local shop Bark and Vine on Orange Street.

“We believe in being more than just a veterinary hospital—we want to be a valued part of the New Haven community,” said Elm City Vet hospital manager Casey Miller. “By partnering with local businesses and events, we aim to strengthen the bond between pet owners and their city.”

Grand Opening Event

Elm City Veterinary Hospital is delighted to announce its official ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 27th at 1:00 PM, celebrating the grand opening of its state-of-the-art facility in downtown New Haven. The event will feature remarks by Justin Elicker, New Haven Mayor.
