2024 Annual Holiday Jazz & Latin Jazz Parranda
Real Art Ways presents trombonist, composer, and arranger Papo Vázquez and the Mighty Pirates Troubadours, direct from NYC, for our annual concert and holiday parranda on Saturday, December 7, at 7:00 pm.
The parranda is a participatory event. Patrons who bring an instrument and play along will receive free admission. Real Art Ways is located at 56 Arbor Street, Hartford. Tickets are $10 for general admission.
Parranda de aguinaldo (Christmas folk music), is an Afro-Indigenous musical form played during the holidays in various Caribbean and Latin American countries including Puerto Rico, Cuba, Trinidad, and the coastal area of the states of Aragua and Carabobo in Venezuela.
Papo Vázquez
Papo Vázquez is a trombonist, composer, and arranger. He has a 40+ year career in playing Jazz, Latin, and Afro-Caribbean music. He is a National Endowment for the Arts Master Artist and Grammy Nominee for his group Mighty Pirates Troubadours.
Papo has played with legendary musicians such as The Fania All-Stars, Ray Barretto, Willie Colón, Eddie Palmieri, Larry Harlow, and Hector La Voe. Vázquez Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie’s United Nations Orchestra, Chico O’Farrill, Ray Charles, Slide Hampton’s World of Trombones, and Jerry Gonzalez Fort Apache among many others.

Papo Vázquez & the Mighty Pirates Troubadours blends multi-faceted compositions and trombone style with rhythms of Afro-Caribbean origins and jazz.
