On Sunday, November 17, at 2:30 pm, Real Art Ways will host Jeb Bishop, Kelly Bray, Nate McBride, and Joe Morris in concert. The event is part of Improvisations Now, a concert series where musicians come together to create unrehearsed and innovative music in real-time. This is the third concert of the 2024-2025 Improvisations Now season. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for Real Art Ways members, and $8 for full-time students. Real Art Ways is located at 56 Arbor Street in Hartford.
Jeb Bishop: trombone
Jeb Bishop has performed, toured, and recorded with groups including the Vandermark Five, the Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet, Ted Sirota’s Rebel Souls, Fred Lonberg-Holm‘s Terminal Four, School Days, Rob Mazurek’s Exploding Star Orchestra, Globe Unity Orchestra, The Engines, and his own Jeb Bishop Trio and Quartet. He also co-led the Lucky 7s project with New Orleans-based trombonist Jeff Albert and is a Boston-based cooperative quintet Cutout member.
He has performed at venues and clubs of every size and description, as well as at jazz and other music festivals throughout North America and Europe.
Kelly Bray: trumpet
Kelly Bray is an improviser recognized for her adventurous and dynamic performances.
While her work draws from many different styles and influences, she is most frequently characterized within the experimental, free jazz, and creative music realms. Bray has performed at venues across the Northeast United States and Canada, appearing alongside acclaimed musicians such as Joe Morris, Brandon Lopez, and Alan Braufman.
A sought-after artist, Bray has been asked to perform in several curated series including, but not limited to, FIM Improvisation (New Haven, CT), Improvisations Now (Hartford, CT), This Music (Cambridge, MA), The Creative Music Series (Somerville, MA), The Driff Fest (Cambridge, MA), Arts in the Margins (Montreal, QC), Instantiation Music Series, and Ars Nova Workshop (Philadelphia, PA).

Nate McBride: bass
Born in 1971 and raised in Seattle, bassist Nate McBride has spent most of his musical life in Boston and Chicago. A bandleader, sideman, writer, and improviser, McBride has performed widely on upright and electric bass with groups and musicians across a wide range of scenes: the East Coast, Chi, Euro Impro, local rock band, and laboratory scenes.

Joe Morris: drums
Joe Morris is a composer/improviser multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, double bass, mandolin, banjo, banjouke, electric bass and drums. He is considered to be “one of the most profound improvisers at work in the U.S.” – WIRE Magazine
Morris has performed and/or recorded with many of the most important contemporary artists in improvised music, including Anthony Braxton, Evan Parker, John Zorn, Ken Vandermark, Tomeka Reid, Fay Victor, Tim Berne, William Parker, Sylvie Courvoisier, Peter Evans, David S. Ware, Joe Maneri, Dewey Redman, Wadada Leo Smith, Leroy Jenkins, Lawrence D. “Butch” Morris, Marshall Allen, Barre Phillips, Barry Guy, Matthew Shipp, Gerald Cleaver, and many others. He has been curating the ensembles for Improvisations Now at Real Art Ways for many years.
