WestConn invites the public to Homecoming on Oct. 19
Western Connecticut State University will host Homecoming 2024, “Western Rising,” for alumni of all ages, families, friends, and current students, on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Class year and program reunions, activities, entertainment and athletic events are planned for the day. There also will be tailgating spots available for reservation.
The Alumni Pavilion’s Reunion City will serve as reunion central for several special reunions, including the 50th Reunion for the Class of 1974; decades reunions for the Classes of ’64, ’84, ’94, ’04, ’14 and ’24; the 20th Reunion for the M.F.A. in Creative & Professional Writing program, the 20th Reunion for the Health Promotion & Exercise Science (HPX) program, a Kathwari Honors Program reunion and Social Work program reunion. A special, free reunion continental breakfast for members of these groups will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in the President’s Room 218 in the Westside Classroom Building. Registration is required at https://wcsutickets.regfox.com/2024-reunion-city.
Attractions at Reunion City from noon to 5 p.m. will include a photo booth, roaming magician, balloon twister, face painting, a children’s craft table, a selfie station, photo ops with Wally the Wolf mascot in the “Wolf Den,” a caricaturist, games/prizes and a bouncy house. Refreshments provided by campus dining partner, Sodexo, will include a grilled cheese station, soups, popcorn, a hot dog cart, apple cider donuts, wine/beer/soda/water, and assorted snacks. Entertainment at the Alumni Pavilion will feature DJ Sounds Unlimited; the WestConn Dance Team; WestConn Cheerleaders; A Capella Group; a Magic Show; and WIG, the university’s Improv Group.
The Tailgating Area will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Prices are $35 for a single space or $45 for a premium space, and pedestrians are free. Tailgating spaces must be reserved in advance here.
There will be an Alumni Hospitality Tent in the Tailgating Area from noon to 4 p.m. that will feature Vinci’s Fried Dough Food Truck, corn hole stations and an ax throw game. Representatives from the Veterans Administration will be there to interact with attendees, and the Western Connecticut Health Coalition is expected to provide NARCAN training to interested parties.
In addition to the Homecoming Football game versus Bridgewater State University at 5 p.m. in the Westside Athletic Complex, WestConn Women’s Volleyball will face UMASS Dartmouth at noon in the Feldman Arena of the O’Neill Center, and WestConn Men’s Soccer will face UMASS Boston at 1 p.m. at the Westside Athletic Complex. The public is invited to attend; tickets for the football game will be for sale at the stadium.
