All Hollow’s Eve
Through a sponsorship from Newtown Savings Bank, the Glebe House Museum announces ALL HOLLOW’S EVE Nights – Saturday, October 19: Cemetery Tours & The House of Secrets (Rain Date: October 20) & Saturday, October 26: The Witch of Woodbury & Friends w/The House of Secrets. These events are certain to bring out the ghosts, goblins, and other scary creatures that go bump in the night and are guaranteed to cause nightmares in even the bravest souls.
October 19
Cemetery Tours: Led by lantern light through a trail of luminaries, attendees will tour the ancient cemetery with their spirit guide visiting the final resting places of some of Woodbury’s notable and not-so-notable residents. You will walk amongst the dead in burial grounds over 350 years old and hear stories of those mortal remains lying beneath your feet as their spirits rise for the occasion and are dying to share their true and often dark tales. Meet the town historian William Cothren, who wrote 3 volumes of Woodbury’s history, and the Leatherman who roamed through much of western Connecticut in the late 1800s, and made numerous stops in Woodbury. Doctor Orton, who practiced medicine over 250 years ago, will be happy to diagnose your condition and apply some leeches to your body. The majority of the other spirits lived in Woodbury during the time of the Revolutionary War. Each tour is unique and different since one never knows where an earth-bound spirit might be found in this ancient burial ground, listed as one of the most haunted sites in Connecticut. Weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes are recommended so you don’t become dead on your feet during the 40-minute walking portion of your evening’s experience.
Cemetery tours will leave the grounds of the Museum every ten minutes beginning at 5:30 PM. The final tour will be at 8:30. Space is limited – Advance ticket purchase is recommended.
October 19: Tarot Readings by Ana M.: Ask a question of Ana M. and support the Glebe House Museum. With over 40 years of experience, Ana will perform readings in the Glebe House Cottage for tips, with 50% donated back to the Museum. (Readings are a $20 value) Cash preferred.
October 26
The Witch of Woodbury & Friends: Mol Cramer, the “Witch of Woodbury,” will be brought to life to narrate a special presentation recounting a dark period in Connecticut history. Gather around the cauldron to hear the story of four women who faced trial as accused witches.
Presentations will happen at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Seating is limited, so advance ticket purchase is recommended. Performances are approximately 60 minutes and are not recommended for children under 8.
Both Nights: The House of Secrets: The 275-year-old Glebe House has a history of hauntings. For this event the Museum is professionally staged to create a unique experience and the themes are designed to be different each year to delight visitors again and again. The House of Secrets draws upon the revelations made during the 1920s restoration of the Glebe House and its opening as a museum. Urban legends and historical facts are revealed. Pay close attention to the whispered secrets and see if you can escape the haunted museum.
The Haunted Museum will be open from 5:30 – 9:30 pm both nights.
