Candace Bushnell: True tales of sex, success, and Sex and the City

Candace Bushnell brings her show true tales of sex, success and sex and the city to fairfield theatre company in fairfield, conencticut in October 2024

In her new one-woman show, New York icon Candace Bushnell, the international best-selling novelist and creator of Sex in the City takes the audience on whirlwind tour of New York City, from Studio 54 to the Lipstick Jungle and beyond, sharing her remarkable stories of fashion, literature and sex while pouring cosmos in Manolos. Grab your Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte and join the OG Carrie Bradshaw for a Girls’ Night Out!

Bushnell’s onstage memoir proceeds at a quick clip. When she emerged from puberty flat-chested, her father said soberly, “I’m afraid no man is ever going to love you.” (“Thanks, Dad.”) She climbed off the bus to Manhattan in a Loehmann’s outfit picked out by her mother, hoping to write her way to a Pulitzer. She landed her first byline with a wry piece on how to behave at Studio 54. (“If someone dies, ignore them.”) She met her Mr. Big, and then he dumped her just as she published the book “Sex and the City,” in 1996, which would upend how readers, and later viewers, thought about women and sex.

Mike Farris

Grammy winner Mike Farris is an artist’s artist, a musician’s musician, celebrated and revered by his fellow performers. It’s no wonder. He’s the one who brings everything to his music and to every live performance, every time.

Mike is a Grammy, Americana and Dove Music Award winner with multiple solo recordings, including his last full length release; “Silver and Stone.” His iconic personal appearances include the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert honoring Aretha Franklin.

He was featured on Patty Griffin’s Grammy-winning “Downtown Church,” and appeared with Griffin on Austin City Limits. He shared the stage with Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Double Trouble on the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame special and made his Grand Ole Opry debut in 2018.

Mike is also the frontman of the mainstream rock group The Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies, who launched onto the scene in the 90’s with a major label release. They quickly became darlings of the critics and fans alike due in part to the extraordinary and controlled chaos of their lead singer’s live vocal performances and stage charisma.

An amalgamation of the spiritual and the earthly, of gospel and rock ‘n’ roll, of faith and fire, Mike Farris will bring what Rolling Stone Country describes as a “supersized voice filled with the electricity of Saturday night and the godly grace of Sunday mornings.”

Melvin Seals & JGB

Melvin Seals & JGB

Melvin Seals has been a powerful presence in the music industry for over 30 years with a long-established reputation as a performer, recording artist and producer. Melvin is most revered for his powerful, high-spirited, Hammond B-3 organ, and keyboards in the Jerry Garcia Band. Melvin spun his B-3 magic with the Jerry Garcia Band for 18 years and in doing so helped pioneer and define what has now become “Jam Band Music”. From blues to funk to rock to jazz, Melvin Seals serves up a tasty mix with a little R&B and gospel thrown in to spice things up.

Melvin and JGB brings an intuitive, expressive style, soul, spontaneity and remarkable chops to the table. With acoustic and electric ingredients and unique combinations of Dave Hebert’s guitar and vocals, Pete Lavezzoli’s hearty drums and, of course, a heapin’ helpin’ of the wizard’s magic on Hammond B-3 Organ and keyboards. Along with backing vocals, the result is a most satisfying blend of natural organic grooves that challenges genre boundaries. Their chemistry is the focus from which they create a spontaneous and high art where the sky is the limit musically. They offer an exciting, often psychedelic musical journey that changes nightly and keeps the audience dancing and smiling (and some staring in amazement) for hours.

In addition to the often played staples, the band has recently been exploring the back catalog and performing a ton of super rare tunes, some of which The Jerry Garcia Band played only a few times over all those years. Adding his rock-gospel-soul-rhythm and blues touch with his funky style of playing, no wonder Jerry nicknamed him “Master of the Universe”. Melvin continues to treat music lovers to his unique brand of melodic flavor with JGB. Come see and hear for yourself!

Mountain Laurel

Mountain Laurel To perform at Fairfield Theatre Company in Fairfield, Connecticut in November 2024
Mountain Laurel

Mountain Laurel is the oft told tale of a college cover band turned indie rock group. All four members of the band are Fairfield, CT natives, New York City residents, and alumni of Fordham University. In the fall of 2014 Andrew Pierson, Robert Salandra, and William Corona began playing bars and rooftop parties alike in their beloved Bronx, New York as a cover band called Seabass and the Fellas. After graduating from Fordham, the three friends stuck together to continue playing shows in the New York City metro area, eventually supplementing their sound with the delicate tones of vocalist Emma Salandra. Informed by Phish and Dave Matthews Band shows at the Hartford Meadows, classic rock on FM radio’s 95.9 the Fox, and their parents’ Stevie Wonder and Fleetwood Mac records, Mountain Laurel’s sound transcends the typical indie rock genre to include influences of folk, jazz, rock, pop, and country music. While their streaming numbers are modest, the band takes extreme pride in the grassroots following they have cultivated – they’ve sold out venues across New England at shows that feel more like family reunions than gatherings of strangers.

w/ The Moonrise Cartel

The Moonrise Cartel is an American folk rock band blending folk, classic rock and Americana with a touch of gospel. The band features soaring harmonies, introspective lyrics, and a vintage sound profile that is reminiscent of the Laurel Canyon music scene balanced with a modern touch to be equal parts timeless, and for the time. Fueled by songwriter Al Pascarelli’s deeply personal writings of a lifelong battle with mental illness, alcoholism and eventual emergence out of the darker shades of the human experience, this is a band with several gears and one that takes you on an incredible journey. His voice is coupled upfront by Stephanie Harrison who wows with striking vocal prowess, bobbing effortlessly between stunning power and heartbreakingly delicate delivery. Gorgeous layers of ambient color come through Sean O’reilly with his piano and harp arrangements, often at the same time. Finally, it is all held together on the rock solid backdrop of Benji LeFevre and Steve Tobey on the low end of bass and drums.
