Jean’s Closet Relocates to Former Beadworks Space on Washington Street
Beloved Norwalk Yarn and Crafts Shop Celebrates Its Grand Re-Opening Ribbon-Cutting on August 13 at 4 PM
Jean’s Closet, a local business on Washington Street since 2018, has recently relocated to a more prominent spot at 139 Washington Street, the former Beadworks location. This store, which was originally located at 129A with its front door tucked away in an alley off of the main drag, is a haven for knitting, crocheting, and crafts enthusiasts, both amateurs and professionals. Owner Jean Smith, the daughter of a seamstress from Kingston, Jamaica, and a former teacher, turned her passion and talents into a thriving business.
Jean’s Closet offers one of Fairfield County’s largest selections of premium yarn brands. The shop also features handmade fashions, accessories, home designs, and gifts. As an educator, Jean is committed to keeping the art of knitting/crocheting alive in the community and conducts classes at local high schools, community colleges, and at her store, fostering a sense of community and shared interest.
The location change of Jean’s Closet is just one of AGW Partners’ recent growth initiatives, which continue to build up the real estate collective’s 27-address portfolio. Jean’s original space was a split occupancy, divided by a wall that placed the previous tenant, Salon Halo, on the Washington Street-facing side. The entire space at 129 Washington will now be occupied by new tenant Stay True Body Piercing and Fine Jewelry from Newington, CT.
“When I first opened my shop, the size and location worked fine, but as I grew, so did my inventory and the need for more space to teach my classes,” says Jean, “When the Beadworks space became available, and AGW began bringing in more types of businesses, the opportunity to move presented itself. I couldn’t be happier with my new address!”
