Some of CT’s Top Runners Win Last Weekend’s Athletic Brewing Company Fairfield Road Races with Over 4,000 Participants
Athletic Brewing Company Fairfield Half Marathon is the Connecticut Half Marathon Championship and had many of Connecticut’s top runners at the event. Over 4,000 runners participated in the weekend’s races held at Fairfield’s Jennings Beach. The event will raise over $100,000 for Ben’s Lighthouse, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, and a number of other worthy charities.
Farmington’s Mario Vazquez won both the Athletic Brewing Company’s Fairfield Half Marathon and 5K this weekend. On Saturday, Vazquez won the 5K in 15:05 finishing comfortably ahead of Hartford’s Chris Testa. Sunday Vazquez won the ½ marathon in 67:53 easily besting West Hartford’s Matthew Walker who finished in 69: 31. Vazquez’s combined time of 1:22:57 earned him 1st place in the Lucas Challenge.
Windham’s Angelia Rafter had the weekend’s top performance, winning the women’s 5K in 16:13. Rafter’s time broke the Female 5K course record previously held by Lindsay Crevoiserat at 16:24 (2021). Rather also won the women’s half marathon in 76:03. Rafter finished 21st overall in the half marathon and finished 2 minutes ahead of Glastonbury’s Alyssa Natario (81:30). Rafter’s combined time of 1:35:15 earned her 1st place for women in the Lucas Challenge and 3rd overall.
Fairfield’s Nathaniel Taylor won the Lil’ Stags ½ Mile Kids Run in 3:00. Wallingford’s Nora Nagy-leranth was the first girl to finish in 3:17.

The post-race beach party, a runner favorite, featured live music, food vendors, and an awards ceremony. The race also included a number of live bands and cheer groups along the ½ marathon and 5K racecourses that cheered on all the runners as they passed.
