Unique opportunities to enjoy the outdoors with Woodcock Nature Center this summer
Woodcock Nature Center is delighted to invite the community to several upcoming events on the Woodcock preserve this summer aimed at getting the community outdoors, appreciating nature and enjoying one another.
Several Nature Center Open Houses are planned throughout the season and are a wonderful way to get to know the more than 20 ambassador animals at Woodcock as the nature center building is open for exploration. Visitors can even plan a longer visit by enjoying the grounds, trails and playground which are open from dawn to dusk daily free of charge. Open Houses are planned for Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, July 7 between  9-11 am as well as Sunday, August 11 between 10 am-12 pm. Reservations are not necessary for these events.
For families interested in an evening activity, two Family Campfires are planned at Woodcock on Sunday, June 30 and Sunday, August 4 between 5 – 7 pm. Attendees will gather ’round the Woodcock fire for some s’mores, relaxation by the pond or some playground fun while enjoying good company on a summer evening. These special community events are made possible in part with support from Woodcock partner ASML. Registration strongly recommended to communicate weather changes but walk-ins are welcome. A $25 donation per family is suggested per event but not required.
Adults can expect to refresh mind, body and spirit with two upcoming events: Hatha yoga with instructor Jessica Outlaw on Saturday, June 22 at 9 am is aimed at adults of all levels and abilities. The yoga practice will awaken the senses and connect participants more deeply to themselves and the natural world through asanas (postures), proper breathing and deep relaxation. Registration is required and the cost is $25 per person. Then, on Saturday August 10 at 8 am join Amy Dickerson, Ed.M. of Soul & Spirit, LLC for an outdoor Soul and Spirit Meditation Circle. In this hour-long meditation group, participants will engage in several different meditations – a brief walking mindfulness meditation to a guided seated meditation to a crystal singing bowl sound bath. These ancient techniques will be provided with the intention to calm the soul and heal the spirit in a safe, warm, accepting environment. Registration is required and the cost is $35 per person.
