Introduction to Stewardship with Avalonia Land Conservancy
Learn about land stewardship while hiking Avalonia’s newest preserve in Bozrah and Montville
The public is invited to join Avalonia from 9-12 Sunday, May 26th at the nearly 160 acre Glemboski-Ous Preserve in Bozrah/Montville. Participants will learn more about how Avalonia, with the help of community stewards, manages its preserves.
During the hike through the old logging roads, and rocky ledges and outcrops, Avalonia Board of Directors president, Dennis Main, along with Director of Stewardship, Tobias Glaza will share how Avalonia plans to steward the property. Discussions will include the ways in which they engage with volunteers to keep trails open and safe as well as the basics of preserve monitoring, boundary posting, methods for maintaining and enhancing wildlife habitat, and other aspects of land management. Along the way, there will be plenty of opportunity to do some light trail maintenance.
Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, sturdy footwear, drinking water, bug spray and loppers or clippers if they have them.
